Reynolds Price to Receive Wolfe Prize

Duke University English professor and renown Southern novelist Reynolds Price will receive the 2007 Thomas Wolfe Prize given by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previous winners have included Ellen Gilchrist, Pat Conroy, and Fred Chappell. Duke University Press published Learning a Trade: A Craftsman’s Notebooks: 1955-1997 in 1998. “Writers—particularly beginners—will savor Price’s lucid address of the mundane but essential issues of the writing life," praised Kirkus Reviews. And in the New York Times Book Review, Renee Tursi wrote: “Learning a Trade moves along appealingly because, while Price pulls deep and often from his own memories, he never confuses a notebook with a journal or diary—forms he finds to be ‘a repetitive bore at the end of a day.’ Rather, his life is ‘all in the work,’ he once claimed. ‘Not a secret spared.’”
