Writer’s Guild on Strike

The LA Times, New York Times, and NPR’s Morning Edition all report this morning that Hollywood’s film and television writers have officially gone on strike after they were unable to come to come to an agreement over their contracts with the major studios.

It is rare for this much media buzz to surround the people in Hollywood who work behind the cameras.  Duke author John Thornton Caldwell, in his forthcoming book Production Culture (April 2008), examines the labor practices and culture of these very people; not only writers and producers, but gaffers, editors, and camera operators as well.
