New Interest in Film Star Sessue Hayakawa

The Newark Star-Ledger reports on the resurgence of interest in early-twentieth-century film star Sessue Hayakawa. Hayakawa is now best-known for his Oscar-nominated role in The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), but before that he was an internationally-known silent film star. The article quotes Daisuke Miyao, author of Sessue Hayakawa: Silent Cinema and Transnational Stardom, and mentions the book, which has helped to fuel the new interest in this once-forgotten star. Many of his movies are being released on DVD and there have been several film festivals in the past year celebrating his career.
