The American Literature Section of the Modern Language Association recently presented the Norman Foerster Prize for the best essay published annually in American Literature at the 2015 Modern Language Association meeting in Vancouver earlier this month. Congratulations to Elizabeth Freeman, winner of the 2014 Foerster Prize! Freeman’s article, “Sacra/mentality in Djuna Barnes’s Nightwood” (86:4), addresses Djuna Barnes’s Nightwood and the queer power of the sacraments.
Honorable mentions include Susan Louise Edmunds for her essay, “‘Just Like Home’: Richard Wright, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and the New Deal,” and Melissa Gniadek for her essay, “Seriality and Settlement: Southworth, Lippard, and The Panorama of the Monumental Grandeur of the Mississippi Valley,” both from volume 86 and issue 1.
Congratulations to the Elizabeth Freeman and both honorable mentions!
