We are excited to announce we will publish and distribute four titles from South End Press in 2015. South End Press folded in July 2014.
The titles, which have been out of print since South End Press closed, are Exile and Pride:Disability, Queerness, and Liberation by Eli Clare; Conquest: Sexual Violence and American Indian Genocide by Andrea Smith; Incognegro: A Memoir of Exile andApartheid by Frank B. Wilderson, III; and Dean Spade’s Normal Life: Administrative Violence, Critical Trans Politics, and the Limits of Law.
Both Andrea Smith and Frank Wilderson have published other books with Duke University Press, so taking on their South End Press titles seemed like a natural fit to Press editors Ken Wissoker and Courtney Berger. The themes explored in both Clare’s and Spade’s books also fit very well with the Press’s established lists in queer theory, gender studies, and disability studies.
In addition to bringing these four titles back into print, Duke University Press will be offering the first e-book editions of all four titles. The Press will also be publishing a revised and expanded edition of Dean Spade’s Normal Life.
“Booksellers, consumers, students, and even the authors themselves have been scrambling to find copies of these important books,” said Sales Manager Michael McCullough. “Being able to make these books available again – and as e-books for the first time – is very exciting. ”
