Donate to our Book Harvest Drive

bookharvest_logo_centered.284150243_logoThis week Duke University Press kicks off our Book Harvest book drive!

Book Harvest is a Triangle nonprofit that collects children’s books and provides them to children in need. Since it kicked off in 2011, Book Harvest has given more than 265,957 donated books to low-income children throughout the Triangle.  We know from recent studies that the single biggest predictor of academic success is the presence of books in the home. Yet many children in the Triangle do not own a single book.

Together, we can help ALL our kids succeed in school and in life–simply by giving them books! Let’s each take some time to clear our cluttered shelves of books our kids have outgrown, so that we may give those books a second life with a child who needs them. We need books for all ages, especially board books and picture books for the youngest readers.

Last year we donated 385 books to Book Harvest. Let’s see if we can collect even more this year! Look for the book collection bins around the Press and Brightleaf Square and please help us fill them. Press staff members will also be happy to collect books from friends and colleagues. The drive continues until Monday, May 4.
