Happy 90th Birthday to Randy Weston

WestonCoverToday we are thrilled to wish jazz pianist and bandleader Randy Weston a happy 90th birthday! Weston is one of the world’s most influential jazz musicians and a remarkable storyteller whose career has spanned five continents and more than seven decades. We published his memoir African Rhythms in 2010 to much acclaim.

Several birthday events are scheduled in Brooklyn and New York City.

Friday, April 8th: Jazz 966, joined by Sistas’ Place, the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium andUp Over Jazz Productions, are throwing an All Star Musical Birthday Tribute including guests Kenny Barron, Donald Smith, Sonny Fortune, Jimmy Owens, Winard Harper and Robin Kelley.

Saturday, April 16th: the Jazz Foundation of America features a Jazz Loft Party with Randy joining them for a birthday celebration at the VIP reception.

Tuesday, April 26th: Randy Weston’s African Rhythms Quartet plays at the Dweck Center, Brooklyn Public Library.

Thursday, April 28th: Concert at The New School to celebrate the end of Weston’s residency there.

Saturday, April 30th: An afternoon conversation with Randy Weston at the Dweck Center, Brooklyn Public Library
